Into the Wrestler-verse Part 4 – Trios Part 3: The Last Minute

“Where the fuck are those guys?”

As our scene rises up, Gavin Taylor can be seen in the parking lot of the undisclosed location. His car is fine. His mood, however, is not. Gavin paces around, dialing his phone which he has had strategically linked to the Bluetooth in his car. After a few rings, the other end picks up.

“Hello?” the voice of Ava St. Claire resonates through the scene. Gavin throws his hands up in the air.

“Finally!” Gavin exclaims. “Ava, I’m glad to hear someone’s voice.”

“Gavin, what’s going on?” she asks. “I’m on a date right now and don’t have time for this.”

Gavin laughs.

“Good one, Ava,” he remarks, shaking his head. “A date… you’re a laugh riot, you know that?

“Gavin, what is it?” she asks in a short manner.

“I need to know if you can get me the phone numbers of Ducky or Xander Valentine?” Gavin asks. Ava is immediately blown away by the sudden ask.

“What? No…” she responds. “I don’t know if you know this, but I have a secretary for this kind of research.”

“Great!” Gavin responds. “Then call your secretary up and get her to get me the numbers of Ducky or Xander Valentine.”

“It’s after hours,” Ava again remarks, attempting to ditch her client. “Besides, what do you need their numbers for at this hour anyway?”

“Well, we planned this team-building camping excursion, and they’re late for the pick-up,” Gavin explains. Suddenly, absolutely nothing still makes sense.

“What do you mean “We”?” Ava remarks, asking the pertinent question on everyone’s mind. Gavin relents.

“Okay, okay… I planned this team-building camping excursion,” he confesses. “AND THEY’RE STILL LATE!”

“Goodbye Gavin,” Ava says, giving up and hanging up her phone.

“Hello? HELLO!?” Gavin yells at the car, but to no avail. Realizing how he must look to any anonymous onlookers, he steps away from the car. “Yelling at my car… people will think I’m nuts!”

He rubs his biceps as he cuddles together. In his past lives as a REAL WORLD ATHELTE, Gavin had been involved in many of his own team-building excursions, and they always led to big breakthroughs where the boys performed better afterwards. Sure, Ducky was no “boy”, and Gavin wasn’t sure whether or not Xander would snap him like a twig given the chance, but Gavin felt it was worth the risk.

If they ever showed. Gavin checks his watch again… waiting…

“Where the fuck are they!?” he asks himself aloud… again…

Until finally…

“Sorry we’re late…” Ducky suddenly appears, hopping out of Xander Valentine’s black SUV. “But SOMEONE needed to stop for gas.”

Xander Valentine steps out of the driver’s seat. “The light was on.”

“You can drive for a long time on just fumes,” Ducky retorts.

“We’re not getting to wherever Jock Strap here wants to take us on “just fumes”,” Xander remarks, assuming Gavin’s plan involves more travel.

“I mean, we could take my car anyway,” Gavin motions to his ride. Xander scoffs.

“I’m not sitting in that thing,” he notes. “Not comfortably, anyway.”

“I could sit on your lap for more room,” Ducky prods at the Hall of Famer. Xander shoots her a look. “Or not?”

“Look, where the fuck are we going anyway?” Xander asks before being bopped on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. He looks back to Ducky.

“Language!” she chides him. Gavin steps in between his Trios partners, looking to play peacemaker.

“There’s a small campsite about 20 clicks from here,” Gavin instructs. “Nothing too fancy, but it’s not Survivor anyway.”

“Good,” Xander remarks. “Get in.”

“I really think it’s better if I drive,” Gavin attempts to convince Xander, who is having absolutely none of it. As he is being scowled at, Gavin takes a step back. “Or not. You probably have more room in there anyw-“

“SHOTGUN!” Ducky calls shotgun. Gavin turns to her.

“Why do you get shotgun?” he asks. “I have to navigate us to our destination.”

“But I called it,” Ducky responds. “Those are the RULES!!”

Gavin looks over to Xander, who shrugs. “Those are the rules.”

Gavin shakes his head, muttering “Fine,” under his breath as he retrieves his belongings, heading to the back seat of Xander’s SUV. The scene fades…
